Lovely Land Day 2
We started with Gratitude Circle and a game of Scout Sword (3 try to sneak up and steal a cloth on the Scout's back without getting tagged by the noodle sword). Next, we looked at several local plants and trees and discussed how to identify them. Then we went on a Scavenger hike for various local trees and plants (like Water Oak, White Oak, Virginia Creeper, Muscadine, etc). Then, they made leaf rubbing art with some of the leaves collected from our hike. After snack and obstacle course, they added watercolor to their Mixed Media Project and we discussed local wildlife and their homes that they build and played a relay game to find and match animals to their houses. Next, we looked at various local animal tracks and they played “Follow my Trail” where a couple campers made a trail of feathers to follow and the others tried to find their trail and track it to the end. At lunch, we continued brainstorming a plot for their play. Then we went to the creek to cool off, explore and play. We saw a Northern Water Snake (non-venomous) at the creek, a Rat Snake (also non-venomous) on a tree and an armadillo! As with all wildlife, we kept our distance and simply observed them.
