Week 2 Day 1 Gravity

We began the morning with a Name Game to learn each other's names. This week’s theme is Gravity so we started discussing what gravity is and how no one knows why it occurs but theories throughout history have existed to try and explain it. We started with Aristotle’s observations and theories and how/why Galileo’s theories superseded them. We also explored the role air resistance plays in gravity with a couple demonstrations. Then using their knowledge of air resistance they completed a STEAM Egg Drop challenge (using limited resources they had to design, build and test a contraption that would safely land an egg without breaking from a controlled height). Then we took a snack break and went to the obstacle course where there is a slackline, ziplines, hammocks and balance beams. After that, they made some Gravity Art (using gravity alone to create a painting). Then had lunch and started creating their original play to be performed on Friday. Next we hiked to the creek to play, explore and cool off. We saw our friendly neighbor brown water snake (non-venomous) at the creek. It mostly napped in the sun. Lastly, some explorers did volleyball 4 square, croquet, baseball, basketball and drew during dismissal.
