This week is all about the land! We will study and explore the gorgeous 94 acre Conservation Property and Organic Farms of Little Rose Nature Adventures.
Through games, plays, experiments, art and engineering projects we will explore an array of land-related topics. Below are a few of the activities for this week:
-What wild animals live at Little Rose Nature Adventures? What tracks do they make on the land?
-Study, identify and record (with leaf rubbings/drawings) local plants and trees
-Play “Native Plants Go Fish”, "Coyote and Hare Game"
and "People, Shelter, Storm Game"
-Where do earthquakes occur and why? What is a seismometer? Make a simple seismometer
-Get our hands dirty in some Gardening 101.
- Create and Paint with Nature Brushes
-Conduct a Biodegradable Experiment: What is the soil made of? What materials are biodegradable and why or why not?
-Make mini clay bricks to build with
How do animals use the land to build their homes? Design and build a kid-size nest
-Act out The Dreaming Tree (A Brazilian Folktale), The Meadow Dandelion (Chippewa Folktale)
-Create a Sensory Map of the land at LRNA
-Predator vs. Prey Games
-What are stalactites? Where and how do they form? Look at caves around the world and make a stalactite
-Create with natural clay and natural found objects
-Seed Dispersal STEM Challenge

This week is all about water!
Through games, plays, experiments, art and engineering projects we will explore an array of water-related topics. Below are a few of the activities for this week:

-What is the water cycle? Water cycle in a bag and Water cycle Tag
-Freshwater vs. Saltwater Animals (Why are some bodies of water salty and others fresh? Why do freshwater fish die in saltwater?)
-Suminagashi Painting (Japanese technique using floating ink in water)
-Can a lake be red? (Science behind Tanzania’s Lake Natron)
-Archimedes’ Screw exploration and play (Who was Archimedes? How does the Screw work? Let’s make and play with our own)
-What causes the Ocean's Currents? Design and build a mini raft from natural resources( Will yours float and survive the currents of Little Rose Creek?)
-The Bridge Challenge (study bridges around the world, design, build and test your own).
-Oil and water painting (what is happening between the oil and water?)
-Layers of the Ocean and their wildlife, Make an Ocean Layer Flip book
-Acting out Folktales from the book Water Stories from Around the World (“Who owns the Water?” Indian Folktale, “Selekana and the River Goddess” a Folktale from Botswana, “Kaluscap and the Water Monster” a Native American Folktale)
-Examine and record what is living in the swamp and creek of Little Rose Nature Adventures.

-What, besides the moon, orbits Earth? and NASA's LCROSS STEM Challenge
-How do clouds form? Cloud in a Jar Experiment, Study the different types of clouds and then search for and draw them in our Nature Journals, Play Cloud Pictionary
-Wind Painting
Why is the sky blue? Blue Sky- Red Sky Experiment
-What is a rainbow? Exploring reflection, refraction and dispersion of light through water and prisms
-14 Common Birds of Northeast Georgia wildlife study and observations and Play Bird Bingo
-Design and build a bird feeder from re-usable materials and observe/record birds that visit it
-How do helicopters fly? Build your own rubberband-powered helicopter.
- What is a Sundial and how does it work? Making a sundial
-Using the Sun to explore Earth's rotation through shadow drawings
-The Tornado Challenge (After studying tornadoes, we will design and build a model house to withstand the highest setting of our fan)

-What is a star? What are constellations? Make your own constellation book
